Quite apart from his poorly ankle, Craig joined the team as a climber with great fitness, but was not known as a fast runner. This extensive plateau would probably never have suited his running strengths even before his injury.

Having amazingly been at, or very near to schedule over the leg where he had his injury and the ones thereafter, he was a bit off the pace here in the fine weather that he seemed to attract on almost all his outings. Maybe his body was beginning to react against the intensity that he was working it.
